Week 4 Why serve? Day 16
A big part of loving others, as we learned last week, is serving them. Service is not optional for the Christ-follower. Serving others is as much a part of following Jesus as breathing is a part of being alive. Read John 13: 1-17. What is your reaction to Jesus' service in this passage? Why? What does Jesus kind of service tell us about how we should serve? Make it your goal this week to serve someone you normally wouldn't. Then, maybe come back here and tell us what that experience was like.

Jesus is God in human flesh. When I read or hear about how He washed the disciples feet all I can think about is how He was just like me, "in human flesh". Jesus walked this same earth that our Holy Father created and He never sinned once, but died for the sins of mankind. Jesus helped those who could not help themselves. We need to "carry on in his footsteps" and continue to help those people. Even though Jesus lived thousands of years ago, His name is still known everywhere.
ReplyDeleteNot only is it a wonderful metaphor for christ washing away the dirt and grime (sin) from their lives but it serves to show that Jesus underneath it all was really a servant. A Godly servant. He washes the feet of his disciples which also shows his love and respect for them- even Judas who was about to betray him. But that foot washing was never meant to stop at us. What Jesus wanted for us to do was to make a long line of foot washings. To serve one another and to respect and love one another.
